Transit Historian

For over 14 years, I’ve served as Publications Director on the board of directors for the Boston Street Railway Association, a 60-year-old 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of public transit in New England.

In this volunteer role, I’ve learned a lot about management, fundraising, marketing, event planning, and PR—not to mention transit history! I’ve had the honor of documenting several historic events through my role in the group, including the renovation of one of Boston’s busiest subway stations, and it has fueled my long-standing passion for public transit.

The production of the BSRA’s latest hardcover book, Boston’s MTA, was one of my biggest projects to date, with my involvement including editing, laying out, producing, and marketing the book. In 2014, I led a redesign of the group’s bi-monthly news magazine, RollSign, bringing it from a black & white, text-based newsletter to a full-color, photo-rich magazine.

I also had the chance to write a book, Boston Transit Equipment: 1979-2009, which was well-received and continues to be a strong seller for the group in local stores. My ongoing work with the BSRA includes production of several new books currently in the pipeline.
